A record total of 63,177 MD, MS, and Diploma seats have been cleared across the country for the upcoming admission cycle, marking a substantial expansion in India’s medical education infrastructure.
Students can download the complete list via the NMC Official Portal by looking for the “Seat Matrix for Postgraduate (PG) seats for the Academic Year 2026–27” under the “What’s New” section.
Medical aspirants can now access the complete branch-wise and institute-wise distribution on the official NMC website as counselling processes begin.
Breakdown of the NEET PG 2026 Seat Matrix by Institution Type
The revised seat numbers reflect an increase of 5,827 additional seats compared to the previous year, aimed at addressing the growing demand for specialist doctors.
The institutional breakdown of the total 63,177 cleared seats includes:
- Government Medical Colleges: 33,088 seats
- Private Medical Institutions: 21,892 seats
- Deemed Universities: 8,197 seats
State-Wise Distribution in the NEET PG 2026 Seat Matrix
According to the official data, Karnataka continues to lead the nation with the highest number of available PG seats at 8,323. Maharashtra follows closely with 6,992 seats, while Tamil Nadu (6,306) and Uttar Pradesh (6,082) round out the top four states with the largest seat pools.
In terms of clinical specialities, MD General Medicine has secured the highest nationwide intake with a total of 6,143 seats approved for this cycle.
Counselling Details and Next Steps
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will utilize this verified data to conduct the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling rounds. Registration for the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category portal is scheduled to commence today, October 1, 2026. Candidates are advised to cross-reference their preferred college codes against the finalized NMC matrix before locking their choices.
