UGC Launches Unified Online Portal for 2(f) and 12B Institutional Recognition

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a unified online single-window portal to streamline the process of granting 2(f) and 12B status to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India.

The online platform transitions the entire institutional recognition workflow into a fully digital, time-bound, and transparent ecosystem.

Streamlining Higher Education Governance

Previously, colleges and universities faced prolonged timelines and repetitive paperwork when applying for statutory recognition. The newly deployed portal consolidates these separate tracks into a single entry point. This integration significantly lowers administrative burdens, minimises manual verification delays, and accelerates processing turnaround times for applicants.

The tech-driven upgrade aligns with the administrative governance targets set under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. By introducing a self-disclosure framework, the portal enhances institutional accountability while removing subjective regulatory discretion.

The Crucial Role of 2(f) and 12B Status

Securing these classifications is a critical milestone for Indian higher education institutions:

• Section 2(f) Status: Marks the formal recognition of a college or university by the UGC, validating its operational legitimacy.
