The University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India to complete the mandatory upload of 2025 examination year academic records and credit data to the National Academic Depository (NAD) and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) platform.
The commission has clarified that the prescribed timeline is final, and no additional upload window will be provided after the deadline. Institutions that fail to upload student records within the stipulated period may face difficulties in maintaining students’ academic credit records under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework. ABC Platform Records Massive Growth Under NEP 2020
The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ecosystem has expanded significantly as part of the implementation of NEP 2020. According to the latest 2026 data:
- More than 33.71 crore student accounts have been registered with an APAAR ID.
- Over 26.50 crore APAAR IDs have been successfully verified.
- More than 3,080 universities and other awarding institutions are registered on the ABC network.
Key Rules Students Should Know About the ABC Portal
The Academic Bank of Credits enables students to digitally store, transfer, and redeem academic credits across recognised institutions. Important operational rules include:

- Digital Academic Identity: The ABC ID is linked with the APAAR ID, Aadhaar, and DigiLocker, creating a unified academic record.
- Recognition of Skill-Based Learning: Credits from vocational education and eligible NSDC-certified courses can be integrated into degree programmes.
- Student Travel Benefits: Verified APAAR ID holders aged 13 to 30 years may be eligible for travel incentives, including discounts on base airfares and additional baggage allowance under applicable schemes.
