The University Grants Commission (UGC) has highlighted the UGC-NEP SAARTHI Current Activities taking place across major higher education institutions in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. These student-led initiatives are successfully accelerating the on-ground execution of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Through its “NEP SAARTHI Corner,” the UGC showcased academic transformations across prominent regional campuses.
Participating institutions include Chitkara University (HP and Punjab), Eternal University, Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Maharaja Agrasen University, and Shoolini University in Himachal Pradesh. In Punjab, student ambassadors from Chandigarh University, DAV University, GNA University, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, and Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV) were commended for leading grassroots educational reforms.
UGC-NEP SAARTHI Current Activities for students
- Academic Bank of Credits (ABC): Driving maximum student registrations for the digital credit repository to ensure seamless credit transfer and academic mobility.
- Student–Faculty Dialogues: Organizing structured on-campus forums to smoothly transition into four-year undergraduate programmes (FYUP) and flexible credit systems.
- Skill-Centric Workshops: Collaborating with university administrations to promote mandatory internships, vocational training, and industry-aligned experiential learning.
- Grassroots Feedback Loops: Gathering peer feedback regarding policy implementation challenges and reporting insights to institutional heads and the UGC.
By spotlighting the Punjab and Himachal Pradesh clusters, the UGC underscores its commitment to empowering students as the primary drivers of India’s evolving higher education landscape.
It is a UGC initiative that encourages students to promote awareness of NEP 2020 reforms in higher education.
Student leaders organise awareness activities and help peers understand academic reforms and flexible learning options.
Key reforms include the Academic Bank of Credits, multidisciplinary education, and multiple entry and exit options.
