The UGC NEP SAARTHI initiative is a student-focused programme launched by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to promote awareness and implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in higher education institutions across India. NEP SAARTHI stands for Student Ambassador for Academic Reforms in Transforming Higher Education in India.

Under this initiative, selected students act as NEP SAARTHI student ambassadors, helping their peers understand key higher education reforms. The programme covers important provisions such as the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), multiple entry and exit options, multidisciplinary education and Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS).

UGC NEP SAARTHI Initiative: Selection and Eligibility

Students enrolled in certificate, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD programmes can be considered. Higher education institutions nominate students who demonstrate leadership qualities, communication skills, and interest in academic reforms. The UGC reviews the nominations and finalises the ambassadors based on the programme guidelines.

Role of NEP SAARTHI Ambassadors

Selected students help conduct NEP 2020 awareness campaigns through quizzes, debates, nukkad nataks, information desks and social media activities. They also collect feedback from fellow students about the implementation of NEP reforms and communicate relevant suggestions to their institutions and the UGC.

Recognition

Students who successfully complete their one-year tenure as NEP SAARTHIs receive a certificate from the UGC and their institution, as prescribed under the programme guidelines.

Overall, the UGC NEP SAARTHI initiative gives students an active role in spreading awareness about NEP 2020 and supporting academic reforms in Indian higher education.
