The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued an urgent advisory directing all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India to actively support the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme.
Colleges and universities are ordered to immediately participate in the intensive 100-day “TB-Free India” campaign.
UGC TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan: Mandatory Campus Actions
The official directive outlines critical operational mandates for all institutional heads:
- Appoint Nodal Officers: Institutions must designate a specific officer to lead and coordinate local anti-TB initiatives.
- Register as Ni-kshay Mitras: Campuses must register on the government portal to adopt patients and sponsor nutritional care.
- Mass Awareness Drives: Colleges must organise street plays, seminars, and poster competitions to eliminate social stigma.
- Administer Public Pledges: Faculty and students must take the official online TB Pledge on the MyGov platform.
- Improve Campus Infrastructure: Institutions must upgrade classroom ventilation and maintain strict hygiene to prevent transmission.
Reporting Requirements
All universities must document their 100-day activities. Performance data must be uploaded directly to the UGC via its designated submission link.
The campaign aims to leverage millions of students to achieve a TB-free India.
The TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan is an initiative aimed at increasing awareness, prevention, and community participation to help eliminate tuberculosis in India.
